Slumdog Millionaire: Is it worth the noise?

Slumdog Millionaire. I am tired of hearing/ reading about it. The movie has done business around 100$ million as compared to 1$ billion of the sacrosanct DARK KNIGHT. 10 oscar nominations if I am quoting Aaj Tak right. But should we forget everything and start dancing as if all our miseries are over? The movie is good but is PURE FICTION and no doubt has some glaring errors. The biggest of those is that the game show is televised LIVE which is not the case with television. There are takes and many retakes. This movie has appealed to the West as it shows us as a third world country which is what they relish to see. Also a britisher, Danny Boyle behind the project is not a bad name for such a project. But no doubt the music is awesome with A R Rehman at his best. Dev Patel, the protagonist is good and has Indian roots but is not Indian. But thi doesn’t stop us from being gung-ho about his Indian connection.

This is were I hate the Indian mentality. Why does recognition from the west matter so much to our society? Why are we running after an Oscar or a redundant post in Obama’s cabinet. Whoever gets that post is not expected to show favours to Indians as that would mean that he/she is not doing his job. Is our Indian pride so shaky that we need such awards and posts to lift it up? Heard of a foreigner being proud of doing something great in India? Al Gore or Peter Jackson rejoicing a Filmfare award in the best foreign film category (I don’t have any idea whether this category exists or not). Even Amitabh through his blog has been critical of this and I second his opinion.

BAN THEM

Any thing in excess is bad, same goes for reality shows. It all started with Kaun banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan which got a rousing welcome from the viewers and was more of a gettogether time for families. Then came Indian Idol season 1 when the whole country waited with bated breath to know who gets eliminated as if it was a question of life and death. But soon every other day there was some new show getting on air with themes ranging from singing, dancing, acting, losing weight or even to the extent of seeing what a bunch of losers do to pass their time in a home fitted with cameras everywhere. This became an everyday affair with eliminations followed by bucketful of tears, celebrities posing as judge walking out in protest and vowing never to come back, but being there at the very next episode. To maintain public’s interest and TRP’s, channels began to make the whole thing scripted hence leaving out the very essence of the show, REALITY. Same story, same content, same tears, same drama have made them boring and monotonous and worth no value of public interest hence it is time for them to get their act together or get off air. To be frank, I prefer the latter.

We Shall Overcome

Its all in the mind. That is what I have to say regarding this recession thing. Recently I caught up with an uncle of mine who kind off looked sad on the day of his son’s wedding. On prodding him to speak on, he told me the reason. Most of his invited subordinates had to be given the sacking orders next morning. Couldn’t have been a tougher thing to do for someone who is passionate about emotions/relations. Today I say come to my son’s wedding with your family and have your fill. Tomorrow I say find some other job to feed your family. Some might have felt good that now the effect of USA is diminishing but the reality is that it is taking the whole world with it in this globalised world. There are some positives like crude oil rates which were dancing at 150$ per barrel and now are touching 40$.

Some famous economists might show previously dated articles where they might have predicted this but all that is crap. There are just two ways for it too go, UP UP UP or DOWN DOWN DOWN. So there is hell a lot of chance of one’s guesses going right. Had my blog been functional before, I too would have had made an accurate estimate using my solid foundation and understanding of the World’s economics ( sad that my non laughable jokes never find any takers).

Though I guess its all about investor confidence. Recession might send you down from a car to a scooter or a bicycle if you have really bad days but things never remain the same so say with me,

WE SHALL OVERCOME ONE DAY (hum honge kaamyab ek din).

I am Here

Hi guys i am the new contributor to this blog which we plan to make our breeding ground as future content providers of mainly stories based on human interactions and normal day to day topics but with a different touch. So Pramod and me plan to bombard this place with all such things we saw in our lives which might help you all connect with us. Saw kung fu panda, was decently good but nothing in comparison with Abhay starrer oye lucky lucky oye which caused me stomach cramps due to laughing. A must watch i say cause abhay is the only deol who knows acting.

Holidays

Yes you read it right, those exams which took with them half my soul are over at last with me now free to put in life into the blog. The elections this time did spring a surprise with Congress coming back to power in Delhi. For those who don't know, BJP candidate VK Malhotra had a post equivalent to that of CM of delhi way back in 60's. Its sad that after 4 decades he is still running after it. In terms of vote share not much difference is there in the candidates so it feels sad when just a couple of votes here and there translate to a WIN or LOSS. I too voted and am still carrying the ink stain on my hand cause the officer responsible for putting it on surely didn't do his duty well. Seems like the ink has corroded my nail so badly that it might remain there until this tissue gets replaced. If the election commission has started using the EVM's, they should modernize it in such a way that no counting has to be done and results are declared straight away.

Change is needed

Seems like the whole humanity is going downhill. WE indians have to take concrete steps to thwart this audacious attack. These people do need to be taught a lesson and the whole world should rise above differences like caste/ religion/ race to end this otherwise our end might be very near.
I pray for peace to all those who martyred themeselves for the country.
